The new Regulation on Geographical Indications (GI) for wines, alcoholic beverages and agricultural
The new Regulation on Geographical Indications (GI) for wines, alcoholic beverages and agricultural, products came into force in Italy on 13 May 2024, introducing a new and clearer registration procedure managed by the EUIPO, which will have the task of managing the GIs register and monitor the domain names related thereto.
The Regulation introduces more stringent rules for the use of GIs as ingredients, extends protection to goods in transit and domain names and provides for the obligation to indicate the name of the producer on the label of a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI).
